MEET THE DIRECTORS

Mark Brockman serves as Recreation Minister at Crestwood Baptist Church.  Mark is excited about another season of Upward at CBC.  This program has resulted in leading many people to a relationship with Jesus.  Mark says, "It's a great basketball league and kids learn a lot about the fundamentals of the sport, but it's much more than your average community league!"

Please contact Mark with any questions you may have about Upward sports in Oldham County at 502-241-8534, ext. 120, or email.

Kevin Johnson is the Minister of Children at St. John United Methodist Church.  He has always been around the game of basketball, from attending camps in the summer as a child, to playing at the collegiate level, to becoming certified as a wheelchair basketball official.  Kevin has a true passion for basketball.  Only the passion that he has for Christ outweighs the passion that he has for the game.  He has been involved with Upward for over eight years and is excited about bringing Oldham County together for the love of basketball and Jesus.  Upward, to him, is advancing God's Kingdom here on earth, which is exactly the way God designed each of us to be.  “Jesus in a basketball” best describes Kevin's view of Upward.  Kevin lives in Crestwood and is the father of three.  He holds a Master of Divinity Degree from Louisville Seminary and looks forward to many more years of Oldham County Upward.

Please contact Kevin with any questions you may have about Upward sports in Oldham County at 502-228-2897, ext. 24, or email him at Kevin4kids@stjohnprospect.com

"What does the worker gain from his toil? I have seen the burden God has laid on men. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live. That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil—this is the gift of God."

Ecclesiastes 3:9-13 (NIV)

Roger Kobel says, "The most satisfying “toil” (literally task) in my life is my involvement in Upward Basketball. God has given me a burden to see young people grow closer to Him – to understand Him. He has also given me a love for the game of basketball. Unlike most, I do not have children who participate in Upward.  My children are now adults and enjoyed sports other than basketball. However, as verse 11 states, it is my time in life to be involved in the Upward ministry. I love Jesus, I love young people and I love basketball. There could not be a better ministry for me! My prayer is that your young man or young lady through the Upward ministry learn something about the eternity that God has placed in their heart and that they grow closer to the God of the universe."

Please contact Roger with any questions you may have about Upward sports in Oldham County.
